There are numerous local attractions to suit all ages.
The Coast - nearby Winchelsea and Camber beaches are greatly valued by those who like fresh air, flocks of birds and open spaces. At low tide there is a large, flat area - ideal for walking.
Bird watching - Dungeness, on the peninsula, is an important staging post for landbird migrants and the Observatory is uniquely positioned for year round bird watching.
Walks - There are woodland walks directly from the house. Romney Marsh is ideal for flat walking, with several good pubs along the way. Fairlight area is equally near for those preferring hilly cliff top walks.
Rye - approx 5 miles away, a Cinque Port with beautiful medieval buildings and cobbled streets and a good selection of shops and restaurants. Also available in Rye:

  • The site of the 1066 Battle of Hastings is the Senlac field to the north of Hastings.
  • Bodiam Castle - National Trust medieval moated castle, set in open grounds near Robertsbridge - voted Sussex Family Attraction of the Year.
  • Batemans, Burwash - Rudyard Kipling's former home. Interior of the Jacobean house reflects the author's associations with the East with beautiful gardens and his original Rolls Royce.
  • Great Dixter House, Northian - Edwin Lutyens restored this medieval house and designed the gardens in 1910, now home to Christopher Lloyd, who has created one of the most experimental gardens in England.
